The Israeli regime, and the western powers who support it, are enemies of the workers and youth of the Middle East. They have been wreaking havoc in the region for more than a century, keeping it crushed under the jackboot of barbaric imperialist oppression.
The position of revolutionary communists in this conflict is clear. We stand with the oppressed against the oppressors. We stand against the reactionary imperialist state of Israel and with the oppressed Palestinians, and now Lebanese, who are at the receiving end of brutal military aggression. We support their right to defend themselves.
Protesters around the world often refer to the state of Israel as a ‘terrorist state’. The Israeli regime dislikes that epithet, but what else can you call it’s actions in Lebanon?

On the same day as the attack against Hezbollah, the Israeli cabinet had voted to expand its war aims to include the safe return of Israeli citizens who have been evacuated from the north of the country and to keep them safe from exchange of fire over the Israel-Lebanon border. That means Israel is now officially preparing an invasion of Lebanon, with the stated aim of establishing a ‘buffer zone’ to “guarantee security in the north of Israel”.
In Netanyahu’s callous calculations, the lives of the hostages are just so much small change to be used for political advantage. His cynical manoeuvres have alienated him from his own electorate, large sections of the Israeli ruling class and even many in his own cabinet.

Netanyahu’s provocations against Iran and Lebanon are pushing the entire region towards an explosive conflagration, with devastating consequences for the whole world. The imperialist warmongers are responsible for this catastrophe in the making.
Official estimates from Gaza’s ministry of health put the death toll at a staggering 39,000. This is only the confirmed casualties. The Lancet estimates the number may be as high as 186,000.
