In his speech at Davos, Carney explained that we lived in an era of “great power rivalry” where “the strong can do what they can, and the weak must suffer what they must.”
The solution Carney proposed is an alliance of “middle powers” to “build a new order that embodies our values, like respect for human rights, sustainable development, solidarity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.”
This new ethos has shattered under the first test. Carney has fully endorsed a war by the Great Power of the United States against Iran, stating: “Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security.”
This is a clear violation of so-called international law and the national sovereignty of Iran. The hypocrisy is clear for all to see. Trump and Netanyahu have both made clear that their aim is regime change. And we have seen what kind of hell their meddling creates—in Libya, in Iraq, in Syria. And so far in Iran, hundreds have been killed, including at least 150 children at a school.
In his Davos speech, Carney also claimed that “The power of the less powerful begins with honesty.”
But what is honesty when your main trading partner goes to war? Standing reality on its head, Carney calls Iran the “principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East.” The statement, incredibly, reaffirms the right of Israel—the aggressive genocidal bully and initiator of this war—“to defend itself.”
When push comes to shove, the Canadian ruling class always falls in line behind big brother.
There can be no peace while imperialism dominates the globe. There can be no truth under this system. And there is no such thing as sovereignty or international law—as long as imperialists can violate them whenever it suits them.
Only revolution can stop this madness.
