I just started my master’s degree at the University of Victoria. While I was being shown around campus with other new researchers, some comrades selling the paper yelled out to our group, “do you want a revolution against the Epstein class?” To my surprise, my supervisor stopped the tour, started chatting with our comrades, and when I told him the flagship article in this issue was great, he bought one then and there!
As we’re walking away, he asks me: “Are you a communist?” I replied that I am, and I asked him if he was. He’s not sure yet, but he’s troubled by the world situation and intrigued by what we have to say. In my view he shows that the ideas of Marxism are reaching a wider layer, as the crisis of world capitalism pushes people to look for answers. It is no accident that his first question to me was the exact phrase we used to carry out the greatest communist recruitment campaign since the Second World War.
