This year on Canada Day I became a Canadian citizen. “It’s a special day, what a privilege”, the judge said. We proceeded to recite the oath of citizenship.
Now I have the privilege to be ruled by a foreign monarch, his heirs and successors. And the privilege to be bound by a law that is used to protect the rich and their right to crush working people. So now, I affirm my allegiance to the King and to the Constitution in the same way that the government affirms the Aboriginal and treaty rights of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people. That is, by violating them and making a mockery out of them.
As a citizen, I have the duty to make Canada a better place. I will do that in the only way possible, by fighting for a socialist Canada in our lifetimes.
