I stayed at a friend’s apartment in Toronto so that I could attend congress. This was my first congress of the RCP and my enthusiasm was palpable to him. Over dinner, I excitedly spoke with him about not only congress but the party as a whole. It was clear that he was interested, and so we agreed that he would read the latest issue of the paper so that we could discuss it once I got back from the first day of congress.
The next evening, before the day’s proceedings had even concluded, he texted me saying not only that he had read the paper, but watched hours of our YouTube videos and taken notes on them! That night and the following we had a great discussion, which resulted in him signing up for congress just so that he could attend the final day!
At congress he spoke with a bunch of different comrades, bought two books, visited the office, and took pages of notes during the presentation on building the party. By the end of the day, he told me how impressed he was by the quality of the discussion, the seriousness of our organization and the size and spread of the RCI. He enthusiastically expressed his desire to join, and did so two days later!
