Revolutionary Communist ideas connect with Uber driver during march through Yorkville

I took that as a very good sign that we’re on the right path and connecting with the right people.

On Monday, to close out the 3rd Congress of the Revolutionary Communist Party, over 400 comrades marched through downtown Toronto, weaving through high-income areas like Yorkville. While there were many reactions to us, many of which were positive, one particular interaction stuck with me. While walking down a main street, an Uber driver was stopped at a red light as we passed. I saw the Uber driver roll down his window and give us a thumbs up, followed by the passenger rolling down her window a minute later to give us a thumbs down. The Uber driver did not waver and continued showing his support through the gesture, but I found the contrast between the two of them very telling.

Here are a group of communists walking through downtown Toronto chanting about “no war but class war” and “revolution is the path, overthrow the Epstein class” and this Uber driver, likely being paid below minimum wage, connected with this message. His customer, dressed in business casual and likely headed to her corporate job in Yorkville, not so much. I took that as a very good sign that we’re on the right path and connecting with the right people.

We are revolutionary communists preparing for a class war. We are fighting for a revolution that will free the working class from the barbaric conditions imposed on us by capitalism. Not everyone is going to like us, especially not those who benefit from keeping this system intact—and that’s a good thing! We don’t want to appeal to them, our aims are diametrically opposed to theirs. I feel like this interaction expressed that perfectly. What better sign of the times we’re living through, and the class struggle that lies ahead.
